Beijing, CHINA – September 15, 2022 – Today’s tip, the Xiaomi MIUI developer creates a Dynamic Island-style feature for MIUI. It’s the same feature of the recently released iPhone 14.
The iPhone 14’s Dynamic Island theme effectively conceals the pill-shaped camera housing. It displays information about notifications, calls, timers, Bluetooth pairing, and other things. The Android version of Dynamic Island was successfully created by the Mi Theme developer. A brief movie demonstrating Dynamic Island’s functionality on an Android smartphone was also made available. The Android version of the Apple Theme is called Grumpy UI, and it is currently only available in Chinese. In the MIUI software, there is also a “Now Playing” feature. When the island is stretched, the theme is able to hide the pinhole selfie camera in the corner, as shown in the video.
Whilst Xiaomi has remained silent on the new functionality, theme creators say the upgrade is still being reviewed. If approved, the Grumpy UI will be available in the MIUI Themes shop. Although the use of a pill-shaped camera theme covering is uncommon on Android devices, it would be fascinating to see if Xiaomi will accept the function. Few Android smartphones have pill-shaped notches, but the Dynamic Island-styled Android Theme may become accessible in the future. We’ll see if Xiaomi takes advantage of the feature.
