Beijing, CHINA – Xiaomi was able to pull off the official release of MIUI 14 with the Xiaomi 13 Series and some of the ecosystem accessories such as Xiaomi Buds 4, a new Xiaomi Router, and the all-new Xiaomi PC. And of course, the whole attention is on Xiaomi 13 Series and MIUI 14. So what’s new on MIUI 14?
- The Photon Engine
According to Xiaomi and a report, the MIUI 14’s Photon Engine was increased up to 88% in a third-party application and it reduces power consumption by up to 16%. That’s a huge number that will surely help optimize your smartphone’s spec to its software resulting in a better experience.
- Home Screen
With the new MIUI 14, users can now change their app icons’ dimensions from 1×1, 2×2, 2×1, and 1×2.
Of course, new wallpapers were also readily available that you can choose from. Wallpapers are very aesthetically technological.
For the weather detail, you can now see it beside the notification bell icon.
And for the new widget, it’s kinda tricky since on the MIUI 14 Beta for Global ROM, the plant and pet widget customization is not available, while it’s obviously available for China ROM users.
- New Settings
New settings were added to MIUI 14, and upon seeing it, I think those are pretty cool adds to the existing settings of MIUI 13.
Haptic feedback and sound have now a separate way to configure. There’s also a tutorial where you can see where the feedback is coming from or how you can customize it.
Also, the Control Center can now be moved to the other side, which to me is a great idea for people who prefer it on the other side.
MIUI 14 new setting can also help you double-tap your screen to lock your phone.
Before, charging animation depends on the fast charging of your smartphone. This time, MIUI 14 lets you customize your charging animation: Wave, Glow, and Flow.
The lockside panel. MIUI 14 now allows you to swipe right to unlock your smartphone while you can open quick apps. To make it more convenient, quick apps can be customized as to what apps you want to appear from the side.
Moreover, you can also turn off the power menu when the handset is locked. Yes, when your phone is locked, no one can either turn off, reboot, or airplane mode your smartphone when toggled.
- Always On Display
I don’t use this much. So, I’m not sure what would be the impact on anyone. For the new features and settings of Always On Display, other than changing it, you can now see the app icons while you’re on AOD.
There’s also an option to automatically turn off your AOD when you’re in a dark environment.
- New Privacy Features
We all know that privacy features are mostly done on web browsers on some apps. However, other apps use our locations, storing it as cache and cookies, but with the MIUI 14, you can go full-incognito mode. This feature will help you disable all apps from collecting your location-related activities.
You can also use the show clipboard for accessing the texts you have copied.
Lastly, you can now either lock or hide an app of your choice with MIUI 14.
- Camera Settings
To be honest, I never expect MIUI 14 to add a new feature on the camera settings. I think it already has the best settings you can find for a camera. Turns out, I am wrong.
The MIUI 14 now allows you to toggle Voice Shutter, an AI toggle that captures your voice and shoots the camera. For example, when toggled, if you say cheese then it will automatically capture the view. Yes, with this setting, setting up a timer may become useless.
Google Lens is now also integrated into the stock camera app.
Tired of copying the text from a picture manually? With MIUI 14, you can now copy a text from a picture and paste it on a note.
Verdict
If this were all going to be smooth, I see the horizon for Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO smartphones. The MIUI 13 has not been a great skin OS in my opinion but I think MIUI 14 will be the time for Xiaomi to claim a sport for having a great OS on a smartphone.
