August 24, 2021 – Earlier today, XDA-Developers, a valuable resource website for people who want to make the most of their mobile devices – from customizing the look and feel to adding new functionality, has posted that a spokesperson from Xiaomi confirms that Xiaomi replaces Mi brand products with Xiaomi.
For the full quote, the spokesperson from Xiaomi said, “Starting in 2021 Q3, Xiaomi’s product series “Mi” will be renamed to “Xiaomi”. This change will unify our global brand presence and close the perception gap between the brand and its products. This change may take some time to take effect in all regions.
With the introduction of the new brand identity, two distinct product series will sit beneath the parent brand. Xiaomi products represent the pinnacle of technology and offer a premium experience. Redmi products bring big innovation at a more accessible price point and are aimed at younger audiences. This differentiation is also reflected in our updated logos, with both the Xiaomi and Redmi logotypes under the parent brand logo.
The product series naming convention — Xiaomi and Redmi — will also be applied to our ecosystem and IoT products over time.”
To remember, Xiaomi used the Mi branding for their products from smartphones to AIoT devices for 11 years. I guess it’s been a hard decision from the boards to replace the Mi branding, especially it’s been a significant brand name that helped them reach the top. In our opinion, Mi really didn’t reach the consumers Xiaomi is aiming for. If you’re an iPhone user and you want to have a spare flagship Android phone from Xiaomi, then it’s not appealing to get a Mi flagship than a Xiaomi flagship.
In addition, the Xiaomi Mix 4 sounds more appealing than that of the Mi Mix 4.
In light of this, it’s given that Xiaomi will no longer name the upcoming Mi 11T Series but rather Xiaomi 11T Series: Xiaomi 11T and Xiaomi 11T Pro.
Above all, we are excited about how Xiaomi will announce its future devices with Xiaomi branding.
