As a avid Mi Fan will chant and hastag themself using #XiaomiNumbaWan but according to analyst Canalys, statistics shows that Xiaomi did not even cracked Top 3 in Philippine market and barely made it in other neighboring Southeast Asian Coutries.
Despite the noise they have created for Q1 and Q2, continuous success of the Redmi Note 7 and Mi 9T, there are still many factors that comes into play. The lack of awareness is the major setback for a dismal result like this. With Samsung topping the chart in almost every SEA country, Oppo and Vivo meanwhile are very visible and active in terms of persuading mall goers to at least try their products in kiosk at almost every corner of the mall.
Even that Xiaomi sits well with their fan base known as the Mi Fans, it just accounts for only a small fraction of the total population of the country. Oftenly mistaken as Siomai (a very popular Chinese dimsum originated from Hong Kong), which is associated as cheap yet satisfying snack, the brand has to step up with their brand awareness not just among their fellow Mi Fans but to a broader scope.
I believe these stats are gathered from official channels only, this does not accounts for the phones sold by your favorite Xiaomi resellers inside the country. This includes the popular Redmi K20 and K20 Pro that did not get released outside China. If it wasnt for the persistence of these resellers, we might not enjoy the unreleased phones especially those that caugh a lot of attention and hype like the Redmi K20 Pro which is the replacement for the Pocophone F1.
Here are the results of the surveys:
