In the city of dreams, Manila – August 15, 2021 – After reading a few posts from tech enthusiasts on Weibo and Xiaomi affiliates, here at Xiaomi Review, we believe that the current chip shortage may force Xiaomi Mix 4 to be a limited offer.
Firstly, our theory is supported by Lu Weibing’s post that due to the shortage of Snapdragon 888+ the pre-sale event of Xiaomi Mix 4 sold in a stretched manner. In addition, the supplier of ceramic body supply yields poorly. He also added that the cost of a lightweight ceramic is 5-6 times that of glass. Xiaomi uses ceramic to protect mini collisions at the back, while Corning Gorilla Glass Victus is for the front.
Secondly, the production of chips has been a struggle from the biggest chip manufacturer, TSMC, due to water shortage in the summer. According to sources, the company limits the chip they ship to chipmakers like NVIDIA, Qualcomm, MediaTek, Apple, and other chipmaker companies. Since Snapdragon 888+ is a product of Qualcomm and the company is neutral to its clients, they may sell the chips in a limited quantity to Xiaomi. Remember, there are also competitors that will get their hands on Snapdragon 888+.
Lastly, although the company teased the device to global observers by posting it on their global social media, Xiaomi still neither has any announcement nor leaks and tips when it will become available. The same thing happened to Mi 11 Ultra, the device hasn’t landed some parts of the global users.
Well, to be fair, historically speaking, the Mix lineup has often been more of a moniker, almost tech showcase kind of thing for Xiaomi. So limited availability is not really unexpected.
As of now, the device has been released in China only in four variants: 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM, 8GB RAM + 256GB ROM, 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM and 12GB RAM + 512GB ROM. The device retails at Yuan 4,999 (PHP 38,846.17), Yuan 5,299 (PHP 41,177.40), Yuan 5,799 (PHP 45,062.80), and Yuan 6,299 (PHP 48,948.19) respectively.
Some highlights on the Xiaomi Mix 4 include an under-display 20MP selfie camera, beneath a curved 6.67-inch, FHD+, 120Hz AMOLED panel. An 1/1.33-inch 108MP ISOCELL HMX main sensor with OIS, 8MP periscope module with 5x optical zoom and 13MP ultrawide with a free-form lens. Running the show – a 4,500 mAh battery, with 120W wired charging and 50W wireless. There is also ultra wideband (UWB) support on board.
