Beijing, CHINA – July 5, 2022 – Xiaomi starts the production of smartphones in Vietnam. The tech giant affirms that the production of smartphones has already been done and they have also delivered the first batch to some parts of Southeast Asia.
According to sources, a DBG representative mentioned that Xiaomi has been collaborating with Hong Kong-based DBG Holdings in Vietnam for more than a year to increase its supply of mobile devices in Southeast Asia. The manufacturer is located at a factory in Vietnam’s Northern Province of Thai Nguyen.
In response to rising delivery and logistics costs in Southeast Asian markets, brought on by COVID-19, the world’s leading electronic producer was encouraged to work with some partners to implement this plan.
In addition to producing smartphones, the factory will have a wide range of components for the local and neighboring markets. These ranges from circuit boards to data transmission devices.
And according to another source, setting up production lines in Vietnam or other Southeast Asian markets can increase both the cost and delivery efficiency of Chinese smartphone makers given the potential market demand and comparably low labor costs in the area. Although it’s still unclear whether the tech giant will add a factory here in the Philippines or in another country in Southeast Asia.
